Trouble in the Middle East
Israel has always had enemies seeking to destroy her:
"Thine enemies have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance" (Psalm 83:4)
This is still the situation today. There are extremist groups that are intent on destroying Israel. They are supported by fanatical Muslim terrorist organisations and some Arab governments.
Hezbollah's recent capture of two Israeli soldiers triggered the current situation in the middle east. Hezbollah claims to be a political party with aims centred on the destruction of the state of Israel.
The so called Middle East Peace Process now appears to have completely ground to a halt. In the past, the united states and the UN have backed proposals which talked in terms of "peace and security". This is significant as the same phrase is found in the Bible:
For when the shall say, Peace and security; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape." (1 Thessalonians 5:3)
Similar language is used in the Old Testament where Ezekiel makes a prophecy concerning Gog:
And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having nether bars nor gates,
To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land. (Ezekiel 38:11,12)
Israel certainly dwell in a land that was once desolate, they returned to the land from all nations and have become prosperous. The prophet continues:
Therefore, son of man, prohpesy and say unto Gog, Thus saith the Lord GOD; In that day when my people of Israel dwelleth safely, shalt thou know it?
And thou shalt come from thy place out of the north parts, thou, and many people with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and a mighty army:
And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes.(Ezekiel 38:14-16)
We know from other Bible prophecies that we are living in the latter days - there aren't many prophecies left to be fulfilled - but, is Israel dwelling safely?
It could be that current events in the Middle East are a precursor to Israel dwelling safely in their land.
Bible prophecy shows us that it is the invasion by the power(s) from the northern parts that triggers the return of Jesus to the earth and the setting up of the Kingdom.
If this is the case then now is the time to be ready and watching:
Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is
For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.
Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house commeth, at even, or midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:
Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.
And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch. (Mark 13:33-37)
